‘Go for it,’ says first person vaccinated in India

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – On Saturday, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched one of the world’s largest immunization drives to put the pandemic under control, hospital cleaning worker Manish Kumar became the first individual in India to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Kumar was shot at Delhi’s premier All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), one of 3,006 vaccination centers developed around the country

“Kumar said, “The vaccine would give me strength and inspiration to support my hospital, which has been at the forefront of treating coronavirus patients. “I think everybody should go for it, since I feel relieved after taking the vaccine.”

India prioritizes nurses, doctors and other frontline workers, and Modi had tears in his eyes when, through video conferencing, he addressed health care workers.
